The event at Evergreen Speedway started off with a bang for the Achilles Motorsports team quite literally.

July 22, 2013 - Santa Clarita, Calif. – The event at Evergreen Speedway started off with a bang for the Achilles Motorsports team quite literally. 2012 Champion Daigo Saito got up close and personal with the wall during his first qualifying run, which put the team from DesignCraft Fabrication and Bridges Racing into high gear trying to get the car ready for the second qualifying run. Robbie Nishida qualified 20th on his second run, and Daigo put down a run that got him into the big show as the 26th qualifier.

The team worked until the wee hours to try and get the damaged car battle ready for Saturday. First up in Top 32 was Daigo Saito, who was set to face Toshiki Yoshioka in the first round. Daigo did what he could with the Lexus Sc430, but the damage from the wreck in qualifying was just too severe. It is a real testament to Daigo's driving that he was able to qualify and attempt to run in Top 32 with the car in the shape that it was. The weekend ended early for the champ as he settled in to watch teammate Robbie Nishida battle his way through the ladder.

Robbie's Great 8 matchup was Chris Forsberg, and both drivers were prepared to hold nothing back. The first set of runs ended in a One More Time call, which meant that the two drivers would have a second chance to claim the victory. Fans were on the edge of their seats as the two drivers went all out, and the two competitors did not disappoint the fans with their second runs. Forsberg ultimately claimed the victory, but the strong showing from Nishida pushed him into 10th place in the points race.

Daigo Saito currently sits in third place in points, with only three points separating first and third place. There are two events left in the season, giving Daigo ample opportunity to fight for his second championship.
