TEAM ACHILLES HAS TWO ON THE PODIUM AT FORMULA DRIFT MIAMI

June 5, 2014 - Santa Clarita, Calif. – Formula DRIFT held its inaugural event at Homestead/Miami Speedway on May 30th and 31st. This event included the first round of the new PRO 2 class, and the competition did not disappoint. Ten of the 16 drivers in the main competition were members of Team Achilles, with Geoff Stoneback standing on the top of the podium at the end of the event. Congratulations to Geoff on his first Formula DRIFT podium!

Twenty-five percent of the field in Top 32 was running on Achilles Radial tires at Miami. Robbie Nishida, Kenny Moen, Dean Kearney, Charles Ng, Dave Briggs, Geoff Stoneback, Alec Hohnadell, and Dan Savage all qualified for the main event, and were set to do battle. The only two members of Team Achilles to meet in the Top 32 would be Charles Ng and Dave Briggs, with Briggs taking the round and heading to his first Top 16 of the season. Nishida, Moen, Kearney, and rookie Stoneback, in his first ever Top 16 appearance, joined Briggs and headed out for Driver Introductions.

Robbie Nishida, after a One-More-Time battle with Justin Pawlak, and Kenny Moen would both advance to the Great 8 alongside Geoff Stoneback. Stoneback, who showed the world that he is a force to be reckoned with, would be the first rookie to compete in the Great 8 this season.

Team Achilles saw some fierce battles in the Great 8, with two drivers getting One-More-Time calls. Nishida and Chris Forsberg battled it out in two great sets of runs, as did Geoff Stoneback and Matt Field. Team Achilles driver, and man on fire, Kenny Moen blazed onto the podium as he took 3rd place overall.

Kenny Moen currently sits in 3rd place and Robbie Nishida is in 6th place in overall points.

Formula DRIFT Round 4 – The Gauntlet will be held at Wall Speedway in Wall Township, New Jersey on June 20th and 21st. Team Achilles drivers Daigo Saito, Robbie Nishida, and Dean Kearney will compete in the Irish Drift Championship – Global Warfare event at Mondello Park on June 27th to 29th.
